Interview « Shoto », EVA Player for Vitality

Evalunna (Vitality)

Welcome and thank you for accepting this interview, can you introduce yourself and your team briefly?

Hi, I'm shoto from Team Vitality. I've been playing the game for about 2 years, and I joined this team about two months ago.

You're described as the ideal profile of a shield player, agile, quick, precise. What exactly is the role of a shield player on EVA, and how do you experience it day to day?

A shield player has great responsibility in the team. They must not hesitate to absorb pressure for their team. They also need to create openings, capture the point, and most importantly defend it.

What sets EVA apart from other video games?

EVA is not comparable to any other game. EVA in my opinion is the perfect blend between video games and physical sport. It's your own body that makes your character move in the game, which brings that aspect you don't find elsewhere. Your statistics are your physical condition.

In your opinion, what qualities should future players have if they want to go pro?

In my opinion, the qualities to be a pro player are first and foremost game vision and decision-making. Then you need good physical condition, as well as good knowledge of the game.

What do you think about the recent push to promote the scene?

The recent push to promote the scene is a very good thing. I think EVA has its place in this world of esports.

You come from the Nîmes scene, a local scene. What was the moment when you realized you could really step up to the next level?

Being in the local division in Nîmes, I already had the mentality and commitment to move up a level. However, before receiving an offer I never would have imagined reaching that level.

Do you think age is a factor for going pro in a game?

I don't think age is a factor. However, physical condition, yes, and unfortunately the older you get, the harder it is for your body to keep up.

If you could change one thing about how young players are trained in esports, what would it be?

I don't have enough knowledge to answer this question.

What made you want to get into esports?

Playing video games since I was young, it's been a dream to get into esports.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to make it as a professional player?

To make it as a pro player you need to be passionate.

What's the difference between a regular EVA player and a pro player?

The difference is in commitment, workload, and time investment.

Do you have a funny or memorable anecdote as a player?

No sorry.

What did you do before EVA?

Before EVA, I played football.

You play an essential role in your team. Does being indispensable change the way you play or prepare?

No it doesn't change the way I play or prepare. I have a role in the team and my goal is to fulfill it.

What's your favorite game outside of EVA and why?

My favorite game since I was young is Rocket League. I've always played this game. I love the tactical aspect combined with team play.

Who's your role model among professional players, someone you'd love to shake hands with?

Zen for the journey he's taken and what he represents.

A good shield player is often the one you notice the least but who keeps the whole team running. Do you see yourself in that description, or are you also looking to stand out individually?

I think it depends on each person. The biggest names in the scene are shield players (skyzer, vexaa). I'm not looking to stand out individually. I'm mainly looking to win as a team. I even think it's easy to notice a shield player when they're well-positioned.

What would you improve in EVA esports if you were in charge tomorrow?

The most important thing missing in EVA is giving everyone the same resources. I'd like each facility to have the same advantages.

Your favorite season and map on EVA?

My favorite season is this one, with the arrival of the sonar meta that brings even more tactical spirit. My favorite map is Outlaw for its point play and spawn control.

Is a physical routine necessary to play EVA?

Yes, you need to maintain good physical condition to play EVA.

A final message for the fans?

Thank you
